High Technology Development Programme
Description
The goal of the programme is to develop already existing perspective high
technology industry branches in Lithuania:
- biotechnology,
- mechatronics,
- laser technologies,
- information technologies,
- nanotechnologies and electronics.
The above listed branches were selected, because there are already positive results in these areas, they correspond to EU priorities and they cover the most perspective part of the country economy and encourage the creation of knowledge-based science and technology parks, clusters, etc.
The High Technology Development programme is coordinated by the Lithuanian State and Study Foundation. Programme is financed from the Lithuanian National Budget assignations to the Lithuanian State Science and Study Foundation and from the Lithuanian Ministry of Education assignations for the implementation of the Lithuanian Single Programming Document measures for 2004-2006. Mobility related projects are covered by the “Information technology” branch of this programme.
The "Information technology" branch is aimed at stimulating information technology expansion and implementation in all fields of country economy and culture. The goal is to develop scientific research in informatics and informatics engineering, to combine the efforts of science and study institutions, high technology industry players in ensuring Lithuanian industry development and competitiveness as well as rationalizing the export structure.
The following "Information technology" trends are intended for development:
- design of distributed and mobile information systems, federal database
engineering,
- design of integrated internet, multimedia and mobile systems,
- design of real-time systems,
- development of e-business technologies,
- software system engineering,
- microsystem design,
- development of simulation, high productivity computations and information
technologies in computation engineering,
- decision methods in information technologies,
- e-learning development,
- knowledge society technologies,
- Lithuanian language and culture in information technologies.
